PREREQUISITES

  • Students must complete 25 verified hours of community service by the end of the first semester of the senior year to participate in Options 1, 2, or 3. They must have a passing average in all classes required for graduation.
  • Students must be candidates for graduation in June to qualify for options 1, 2 or 3. They must have a passing average in all classes required for graduation.
  • Students must maintain good attendance and good discipline records during the first 3 quarters of the senior year.

  • DESCRIPTION OF OPTIONS

    Options 1-2-3
    • Option 1 - An internship program in an area of personal/professional interest to the student.
    • Option 2 - A focused community service project in one field of particular significance to the student.
    • Option 3 - An independent study reflecting upon a specific problem or discipline of interest to the student.


    Options 1, 2 and 3 will have a released time component incorporated into the fourth marking period to allow for research, site experiences and preparation of the final exhibition.

    Students will work closely with the mentor teacher of their choice and present a final exhibition of their work to an audience or peers, parents, staff and community members whom they have selected.

    Evaluation of the exhibition will be based upon the journal, research, development, presentation, speaking skills and subject mastery. There will be a range of grade from 1 to 5. Every number above 1 is a passing grade.
    Option 4 - An independent tutorial will be designed in collaboration with the English/Social Studies teachers which will feature an in depth analysis of relevant course topics. There will be no released time. A final exhibition will be required.
