Message from the Superintendent

Dear Members of the Croton-Harmon School Community,

We are well into the 2009-10 school year.  Our children are engaged in their academics as well as many co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.  I would like to take this opportunity to share with you some of the many things I have learned in my first 100+ days as your superintendent of schools.
  • By visiting classrooms and talking with students and teachers, I know that our students are happy.  The children are amazing - they are genuinely interested and engaged in learning.

  • By looking at student work, I know that our students are creative.  I've already been to two "publishing parties" where students share their writing with parents and others.   There is nothing better than listening to a child read a book that they have written and illustrated.

  • By being around our schools, I know that parents are supportive of their children and the schools.  Parents are so willing to help our schools and teachers make the learning environment positive.

Reflections from the Board President

Reflections from the Board President

To The Croton Community,

Your School Board has been meeting regularly. For the past few months we have met at least three times a month. At the beginning of each month, our business meetings are held. At our education focused work sessions (usually held the third week of the month), we have already discussed the long range plan (developed by the Long Range Plan Task Force) and virtual high school classes. We also held our first 2009-2010 community meeting which we devoted to World Class Quality Education. All community members are welcome at any of these meetings. Topics for these meetings are listed on the Board calendar at the website. Apart from these meetings, all school board members also have committee assignments. These committees are devoted to issues such as advocacy, policy, facilities, finance, etc. and meet on a regular basis as well. We are adding committee information to the website over the next month.
