Band is open to any student who plays a band instrument and wishes to perform. In addition to two rehearsals per week, each band student receives one group lesson per week. Group lessons are scheduled on a rotating basis during the school day. Before coming to the lesson, students are responsible for turning in and receiving all homework assignments. If an exam is being given during a lesson time, students are expected to take the exam and inform Ms. Sable they will be unable to attend the lesson. Practice sheets are to be filled in by the student and signed by a parent or guardian every month. Practice sheets that are not turned in will result in a lower grade.

Students also have the opportunity to learn a new instrument. Students attend group lessons on a rotating basis during the school day and will play in the PVC Spring Concert.

Students interested in Jazz Band must participate in Symphonic Band, Concert Band, or be learning a new instrument at PVC. Jazz Band rehearses on Tuesdays from 3 to 4 P.M.

Supplies Required

All students must bring a pencil to band. Students may store their instrument in the music instrument room while they are in school. This room is open before and after school for student access.

Students playing reed instruments (clarinet, sax, oboe, bassoon) should have at least one good reed and two spare reeds in their case at all times. It might be less expensive to buy a box from a music store, rather than buying them one at a time.

All brass players should have valve oil or slide oil and a spare rag in their case at all times. Valves should be oiled at least once per week to keep them in good playing condition.
