Profiles of Board Members Running for Re-Election

GIUSEPPINA MILLER

Giuseppina Miller is running for her second term on the School Board.  Over the past three years she has served on the Policy, Audit and Advocacy Committees.  She was also a Board Liaison to the CET and CHHS Building Planning Councils, the district's Volunteer Initiative, the READ Advocacy Group, Croton Community Coalition and the Westchester Putnam School Board Association's Legislative Action Committee.  Prior to the Board, Ms. Miller was President of Croton Community Nursery School and then went on to volunteer in the school district in many roles including creating and enhancing lunch programs at CET and PVC, Parent Coordinator for 4th grade Broadway Kids production and Co-President of CET PTA for two years.  For the past two years she has been a manager for her daughter's Destination Imagination team.  Ms. Miller has Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY.  She worked for an international petroleum company for 6 years and, after having her children, was a Science Enrichment Coordinator for Peekskill High School through Pace University for 6 years.  Presently she tutors math and science and is continuing her education in healthcare.  She has lived in Croton for 19 years with her husband, Kerry, and has 3 children, a sophomore and freshman at CHHS and a 7th grader at PVC.

ANDREA FUREY

Andrea Furey is running for her second term on the School Board.  Currently Vice President, she has served on the Communications, Advocacy, Audit and Board Development Committees.  She has also been Board Liaison to the PVC Building Planning Council, the district's Volunteer Initiative and the Westchester Putnam School Board Association/Manhattanville College Post-High School Transition Task Force program.  Prior to being on the Board, Ms. Furey volunteered for the district by helping to found its Special Education PTA and served as its co-president for five years.  She also served as a parent representative for the Committee for Special Education for approximately fifty meetings and as producer for two PVC musicals.  She served as a leader for Girl Scout Troop 1198.  Ms. Furey graduated from Wellesley College in Wellesley, MA, with a B. A. in Art History.  She has had a 20-plus year career in art program administration and non-profit volunteer development, communications and marketing.  She is now a pre-K teacher for Childrenspace Pre-K in Croton.  She has lived in Croton for 13 years with her husband, David Cohen, and has two children, a son who is a 9th grader at CHHS and a daughter who is a freshman at Carleton College in Minnesota.
